A Quick Mid-Year Update
Recapping Recent Publications
Greetings, readers! This will be a brief run-down of what I’ve published over the last few months—some new poems and a couple reviews.
New Poems
“Peachtree Industrial” was published in the James Dickey Review:
“Approaching Eighteen” was published online in Delta Poetry Review (sadly, the journal will be shutting down after the next issue, ending an eight-year run).
“The Gaze of the Other” appeared in the inaugural issue of The Colosseum:
“Gulf Burden” appeared in the April issue of First Things:
I was very grateful to receive an Honorable Mention in the 2026 Frost Farm Prize for Metrical Poetry, judged by Ryan Wilson. Check out the full results, including the elegant winning poem by Carla Galdo.
Finally, two poems, “Kitchen Abstraction” and “Response”, were published online in the Spring issue of Ad Fontes (now under new editorship, with a revitalized website).
Book Reviews
I also had two reviews published this spring.
My review of jacob riyeff’s very nice collection Be Radiant (Fernwood Press) appeared in Presence 2026 (print only).
I enjoyed spending some time with Nature Poems To See By: A Comic Artist Interprets More Great Poetry by Julian Peters (Plough Books)—my review was published in April by Mere Orthodoxy (thanks to books editor Nadya Williams!). Peters’s work is really fascinating: check out his Rhina Espaillat adaptation, or other poetry comics here.
That’s all for now—as always, thanks for reading!

Great poems! Also love that cover on the James Dickey Review!
Congratulations, Steven. Keep up the good work.
